Sunday, July 27,2008 - Virginia Beach, VA - US Club Soccer National Finals. The Tallahassee United Futbol Club u16 boys played their second match of the tournament today against Columbus(OH) Futbol Club. The weather was beautiful, although warm, the fields were in great condition, and strong breeze blew. Both teams showed up ready to play, with spirited exchanges from the beginning. It was evident early on that this was going to be one of the toughest teams these boys have faced. Three yellow cars would be issued before the game ended. Although the boys moved the ball and maintained possession well they couldn’t break through Columbus' back line. With minutes left in the first half Columbus scored, taking a 1-0 lead going into the half. Our back line defended well and keeper Evan Cameron, who had a strong first game, made some great saves to keep us in today’s game as well.The Tallahassee boys came out strong in the second half, determined to stay in the game. We had several nice chances to score, but couldn’t put the ball in the net. With time running out, the coaches changed the formation and hoped adding a third striker would even the score. Before they had time to make this formation work, Columbus scored from a direct kick with less than five minutes left in the game, putting us in a difficult position. The boys continued to fight hard, but were still not able to score, losing 0-2.The boys will play their third match on Monday, July 28 at 6pm against Mass (MA) Premier Bulldogs.
