TUFC  vs  Boston, Mass.

Tallahassee United Futbol Club's u16 boys played their final match against Mass (MA) Premier Bulldogs from Boston at 6pm today.  The Bulldogs entered the game undefeated, but still needing a win to insure a spot in the Finals. They were a fast team that moved the ball well, and who at that point had not allowed a goal against them in the tournament.

Our young men started strong, dominated possession and had several good chances to score early on.  Eventually United scored a nice goal mid-way through the half which gave our boys a 1-0 lead at half time. The game was very fast paced with both teams giving their best. TUFC began the second half, as they had the first, dominating possession and play.  However, with approximately 15 minutes left in the game, the score was tied when a controversial penalty kick was awarded to the Bulldogs after one of their players was fouled in the box. A few minutes later, the Bulldogs would score again from a nicely played corner kick. With little time left in the game, our boys were not able to even the score and it ended with a disappointing 2-1 loss.

In May the TUFC u16 boys beat some of the best teams in Florida to win the Regionals and advance to the National Championship. At Nationals, they played some of the best teams in the nation and not only held their own, but dominated much of the game against other worthy teams. Sometimes in soccer, the final result is not a true reflection of the actual game. As players, they know it's the balls that go in the net that count, and this past weekend the other teams put only 1 or 2 more balls in the net than we did.
Tallahassee Futbol Club was formed only 10 years ago. By soccer standards, it is a mere youngster. For a relatively small group of our local youth to reach these levels in such a short period, due only to hard work, and purposeful development, rather than the targeted recruiting that occurs in larger cities, is a great accomplishment in itself. Our young men demonstrated that they could contend with teams from cities with player pools much larger than Tallahassee's, and they represented our city, and Tallahassee United Futbol Club, well. They have begun to put Tallahassee on the national map and hopefully they will return next year to win it all!
